Week1 Reading was basically talking about how CAD technology in architecture simply reifying ancient tradition. CAD systems successfully replace traditional drafting practices and also it is more accurate and efficient in many ways. For example, in 3D modelling tools, you have points, straight lines, arcs, and circles as basic graphic primitives and you can insert them on a electronic work-space which is equivalent to a paper. You can also copy and paste what you draw, so rapid replication of existing shapes are enabled. There are many more. Funny thing is, architects tend to build what they can draw and draw what they can build. But by having these advantages which you can now encode the mathematical formulas for various types of curves in software, building more complicated and sophisticated structure has become possible.
